Due to limited space, discussions sometimes took place just outside faculty
offices. Students with Dr. Richard Cash (second from right) can be seen here.

To overcome space constraints, CBEC took over a “gulley” (narrow corridor)
as an extension of the Centre for students to work on assignments.

Teaching sessions were undertaken in hospital conference rooms requiring
pre-booking. A session underway with Dr. Manzoor Ahmed (second from right).

REACHING OUT TO THE PUBLIC

Ethics and Culture Hour (ECH) with Ms.Tina Sani, a renowned Pakistani singer, in November 2009. The aim of ECH is to connect ethics with local artistic traditions by inviting renowned scholars, literary figures and artists.

CBEC holds seminars on topics and themes that are also of interest to the general public. A brochure of such an event is pictured above.

#CBEContheWeb was launched as a temporary replacement for CBEC Forum, focusing on emerging ethical issues in the pandemic.

Guidelines for decision-making during the pandemic were developed by CBEC faculty. These were later adopted by National Bioethics Committee.

A narrative series with artwork was launched on Facebook. This was an outreach effort that published narratives not only from alumni but also from the public.
QUALITATIVE RESEARCH: EXPLORING LOCAL REALITIES

In 2007, CBEC faculty, including Dr. Farhat Moazam, Dr. Riffat Zaman, and Dr. Aamir Jafarey, conducted an ethnographic study with kidney vendors in Sargodha, Pakistan. This study was subsequently published in the “Hastings Center Report.” The picture shows Dr. Zaman and Dr. Moazam interviewing research participants in a village.
